As you probably know Bill and Lynn’s first home at Carter Lake was a tent along the shore pretty much near the current sailing club dock. Several other early sailing buddies also camped there.\u00a0Bill and Lynn\u00a0loved Carter so much\u00a0they bought a lot for the first cabin. There were two guys (carpenters and also sailors) who helped him build it.\u00a0I helped nail down part of the roof. It soon became the after race party center for the sailors and my\u00a0dad would often\u00a0entertain business associates and customers of FPI there. My dad was a little too liberal with the gin when he\u00a0made his famous Tom Collins’s which\u00a0worried Bill and Lynn\u00a0about folks driving back to Denver. Anyhow it was always great\u00a0high spirited fun. In those days Bill was always trying to recruit someone to crew for him and hopefully\u00a0later buy a\u00a0Star boat. Part of his game was to teach how\u00a0you how to sail a Star. \u00a0I think the two guys who helped build the cabin purchased\u00a0one. \u00a0He was trying to build up the Star fleet at Carter. He was\u00a0always willing to sell you his latest boat and acquire a new one for himself. As time went by he entered national and regional racing events taking along his latest crew member for the thrill of a sailing lifetime. He became well known to sailors all over the country as the\u00a0fun loving\u00a0Star boat\u00a0captain from Colorado who always did a little better than anyone expected.<\/div>\n

In thinking and writing about Bill don’t forget his love of dogs. He adored them and as you know in his later years Bill rescued or took in neglected dogs. I think the dog he probably loved the most was a white\u00a0husky named\u00a0Twinkle which Bill and Lynn got when they first moved to Denver. Twinkle helped them raise Kristie and Thor. He loved dog walks. His dog buddies were his favorite walking companions.\u00a0Please remember that Scruffy is also as much a family member as Thor, Kristie, Pinky or me.<\/div>\n
